Valpolicella

Kubb lands in Valpolicella.

From these hills, Kubb made it all the way to the European Championships. Now the European Championships are coming here.

  1. October 2024

    A.S.D. Kubb Italia is founded

Italy's first national Kubb association is founded in Valpolicella by people who were already playing the game at village festivals.

In two minutes

What is Kubb, and how do you play?

A throwing game from Sweden: two teams, pieces of wood and a lawn. You can learn it in ten minutes and play it at any age.

  1. Step 1: Two teams, one pitch

A lawn measuring 8 × 5 metres. Five wooden kubbs on each baseline, the king in the centre.

  2. Step 2: Throw underarm

From your baseline you throw the sticks underarm to knock down your opponents' kubbs. The stick spins end over end, never helicopter-style.

  3. Step 3: Knocked-down kubbs come back into play

The team whose kubbs were knocked down throws them into the other half: they become field kubbs, which have to be knocked down before the baseline kubbs.

  4. Step 4: Last of all, the king

Once all your opponents' kubbs are down, you throw at the king: if he falls, you've won. Knock him over too early, even by accident, and you lose.

FAQ

Questions we're often asked.

I've never played. Can I still come to a tournament?

Yes. Almost all our events have a free-play area where we'll explain the rules in ten minutes. No experience needed: that's often where new teams get started.

Open days in the calendar →
How much does it cost to join the association?

For 2026 membership is free: just fill in the form. Many events are also open to non-members.

Membership form →
Do I need any special equipment?

Not if you just want to try it: we bring the sets to tournaments and events. If you want to play at home, a wooden set costs around €60–90 and lasts for years.

Are you a sports federation?

No, we're an amateur sports association (A.S.D.). We promote, coordinate and map Kubb in Italy. We play by the European Championship (EKC) rules, which we've translated for our rulebook.

The rules →
Can I organise a tournament with your support?

Yes. Tell us the date, place and format you have in mind: we'll help you with the rules, promote it on our channels and put you in touch with nearby clubs.
